This trek takes you to the Mugu, the second most remote district in Nepal, located in the far west of the country. The trek offers stunning views of the Himalayas and takes you through traditional villages and rugged mountain landscapes.
- Day 1: Flight Nepalgunj to Talcha.
- Day 2: Jeep to Mili chaur. Walk to Murma homestay.
- Day 3: Boating and walking along Rara Lake.
- Day 4: Hike to Gamgadhi
- Day 5: Hike to Rowa
- Day 6: Full day in Rowa
- Day 7: Hike to Gamgadhi
- Day 8: Hike to Pina
- Day 9: Flight to Nepalgunj and further to Kathmandu.
Day 1: Flight Nepalgunj to Talcha
The flight to Talcha leaves a few hours after you reach Nepalgunj. Talcha is a small village with a tiny airport. Well worth a visit. You stay overnight in a small hotel in Talcha.
Day 2: Jeep to Mili chaur. Walk to Murma homestay.
You go by jeep to a meadow. From there you start walking to Rara lake. You walk along the lake and then a bit uphill until you get to Rara Homestay where you will stay for two nights. The hike takes around 2 hours. After lunch at the homestay, you make a walk to the next village, a beautiful place called Murma. The walk there takes around 1 hour. Drink tea with a family and see how they live. Black to hotel. If it is cold in the evening you can sit by the fire outdoor.
Day 3: Boating and walking along Rara Lake.
Today you spend all day around the lake, by boat and by walk. In Rara you can see 224 kinds of plants, including medicinal herbs, 272 types of birds, and 51 types of mammals, including the endangered red pandas, can be found in the park. You will also see the blooming beauty of forests of rhododendron.
Day 4: Hike to Gamgadhi
Today you walk for 3-4 hours crossing small villages to Mugus district capital Gamgadhi. See the bazaar. It is a small and traditional town with almost no vehicles and mainly small wooden houses.
Day 5: Hike to Rowa
Crossing forests and dramatic nature along the way we slowly reach the village Rowa. Here we stay in a very simple home together with a family.
Day 6: Rowa
Today we stay in Rowa, visiting the village and the school.
Day 7: Hike to Gamgadhi
You spend one more night in Gamgadhi or in a village just past it.
Day 8: Hike to Pina
Hike to Pina. Stay with a family in the very traditional village Pina. You will probably, as in most places in Mugu, eat red marsi rice, millet and buckwheat bread and a lot of local honey. Western food is something you will not find anywhere in Mugu.
Day 9: Flight to Nepalgunj and further to Kathmandu.
Today you walk to the airport and fly to Nepalgunj and further to Kathmandu.
